Winter Landscape

Three people maximum  –  Two spaces left

Cost £1450.
10 years experience running these workshops

All the images are of wild birds on this page have been taken by me in Sweden, I expect my clients to get similar quality of images of the species seen on the trip

Come to northern Sweden to photograph these magnificent birds in their natural surroundings. The workshop consists of three days photography and two days travel. The photography of the eagles is challenging and discussions continue during the day in the hide to get the very best images possible.

The conditions can be extreme at times with very low temperatures, the hide is a log cabin with a heater and plenty of tea and coffee all day as required, basic toilet facilities available.

We will discuss techniques on how to get the correct exposure, exposure compensation and white balance required for shooting in snowy conditions.

Some of the other birds that visit the hide throughout the day

Travel Friday to Skellefteå via Stockholm Arlanda, and transfer to Kalvtrask

Saturday, Sunday, Monday are photography days

Tuesday return home via Skellefteå and Stockholm

The group size for this workshop is three people in the workshop. If you have the group of that size wishing to do this workshop I can arrange it at a time to suit you availability permitting.

All our guests have their own room

Equipment

Each photographer has two apertures and as such need, two lenses, 300mm – 600mm + teleconverters, zoom lenses are also good 100 – 400mm of 150 – 600mm. You will need to bring tripod heads for each setup. There is a possibility we might see the northern lights and a wide angle lens is useful for this and a tripod. We will not be using tripods in the hide. Camera plates are provided.

Passport, spare batteries, battery chargers spare cards etc. A cable release is useful

We will meet in terminal 4 at Stockholm which is where the flight to Skelleftea leaves. It’s a small terminal. There is a bar on the right-hand side as you pass through security,we normally meet there.

It is essential that you make the flight up to Skeleftea as the transfer is 90 minutes to Kalvtrask from the airport

Clothing

You need to layer up for the walk into the hide, five layers are plenty it’s about ten minutes (400 yards). The hides are heated so you will be taking layers off in the hide

The currency is the Swedish Krona. I use my debit card to buy food etc in the airports. There is nowhere to spend any money on Kalvtrask. There are no hotels or bars

Accommodation

The accommodation is in a farmhouse in the village of Kalvtrask, Vasterbotton Lan, Northern Sweden.

You will be staying in a farmhouse with shared facilities. You will have your own room with a cot style bed and living out of a suitcase for the duration on the workshop

This is not hotel accommodation and is on the basic side. The house is very warm and clean and comfortable

Testimonials

David Naylor – Derbyshire February 2019

The trip was absolutely excellent – thank you very much for all of your efforts and hard work in making it happen. I was not expecting multiple visits by different birds every day – very special to be so close………. David

Jonathan Mercer  –  Gloustershire Februaty 2019
“I participated in Ron’s Golden Eagle trip to Sweden in February. The trip was superb, with amazing Eagle views daily from heated hides, excellent organisation and accommodationfood, and camera tuition as and when needed. Thoroughly recommended”………….. Jonathan

Richard Stacey – Suffolk Feb 2018

Thanks for the wonderful trip, you always hope when you book a trip like this that it will be good, but this exceeded all expectations. You supplied us with all the info we needed before the trip and passed on some very good tips on how to improve the end results. Your company was excellent and the rest of the party great. I have dropped Conny a line thanking him and asked him to thank his wife for the great meals. I seem to have rather a lot of photos to go through but that will be exciting ( hopefully I have a couple in focus!).

I hope the rest of your journey home went ok and with a bit of luck, I think I will be able to swing an otter trip next January. I am just going to wait till a friend comes home from holiday next week to see if I can persuade him to join me, so will be in contact very soon. Thanks again from one very happy guy………..Richard

Colin Moyes – Suffolk Feb 2018

I would like to say how much I enjoyed the trip with you, I thought it was absolutely fantastic in every way. Wildlife can be very unpredictable as we all know, never mind the weather. I thought the trip was so well organised by yourself, the hospitality and food and accommodation by Conny and Caterina was excellent too. I enjoyed everyone’s company also. I have looked at my pics and I am very pleased with them, so close to the Eagle on the last day! I will remember the trip for the rest of my life, truly amazing in many ways also meeting someone like Conny, so once again Ron a big thank you. I hope to see you at the bird fair later this year, best regards…………Colin
