The boxing hares of Coldstream

There have been a number of hares in the field near my house, I have been watching them for a few weeks now hoping to catch them boxing. This is were the buck chases the doe around the field, he is looking to see if she is ready to mate. If she doesn’t want his advances she turns and starts to beat him back. They tend to get up on their back legs and box rejecting his advances.

About Ron McCombe

I live in the Scottish Borders near Coldstream and like to photograph the local wildlife. Northumberland and South East Scotland have an abundance of natural history with sites such as Bass Rock, The Farne Islands, Holy Island and the Lammermuir Hills. I have also traveled extensively throughout Europe, visiting Norway Sweden, Finland, Poland and Spain. I have also traveled the USA and Canada. But I have to say I prefer Scotland, the lowlands, the highland and islands, Scotland has an abundance of wildlife to be photographed and enjoyed. I like to visit the Isle of Mull when I can, the wildlife and the scenery is stunning, some great species here to photograph, white tailed eagles, otters and red deer to name but a few. You should come along and take a look Ron
