21st Scottish Nature Photography Fair, Battleby, Perth

It the 21st Scottish Nature Photography Fair at at Scottish Natural heritage in Battleby near Perth on Saturday and Sunday. Its a collection of like minded photographers from all over Scotland. I will be there on both days, and on Sunday I will be helping out on the Scottish Nature Photography Awards stand along with Niall Irvine and Neil McIntyre. Osprey at Loch of the Lowe’s

I was at the Loch of the Lowe’s in Perthshire at the end of July and had a conversation with one of the wardens there.  She told me that the ospreys had failed this year, they had three eggs but due to the wet weather the eggs didn’t hatch. The birds were still around the loch and were still mating. The male was also bringing food into the nest fort he female. The just as we were talking about the birds, the male came flying in with a large fish for his mate.The nest was a little bit distant but the pictures are OK I shot a few pictures for the interaction before the female flew...

Roe Deer Buck in the margin

I was back on the farm near Coldingham again looking for the roe deer, they have been a little difficult due to the height of the wheat in the fields and the depth on the grass in the conservation headland, but its the old story, if your not there you don’t get the picture. So I keep turning up waiting to get the picture I have been anticipating, waiting for the deer to get into the position were I think the best picture could be gained. Meadow Pipit on the Uplands of the Borders

This is a set of meadow pipit pictures taken on the Lammermuir Hills in the Scottish Borders above Longformacus. I am quite a fan of these little  birds and if you can find the right setting and lighting, they can took quite stunning. The setting here was on a steep sided clough and a narrow depth of field making the background out of focus, leaving a rich dark green which shows off the plumage of the birds. I hope you like...
