Longtailed Tits near Coldingham in the Borders

I was trying to get some images of buzzards in flight when along came this family of long-tailed tits. So I spent a little time getting some images of them instead. They came very close and I found it very difficult to count how many there was of the. The flitted about relentlessly from tree to tree and from branch to branch. I think there was ten in total and I managed to pick out an adult in there also. The adult has full plumage co,ours and a yellow eye ring. The juveniles have dowdy dirty looking plumage and a red eye rind Here are some of the images I took in the session

A great time for garden birds.

Its a great time to get out in the garden and photograph the local bird life. Greenfinch, blue tit, nuthatch and great spotted woodpecker, all these birds are regular visitors to  my garden. The juveniles are quite easy to get pictures of as they know no fear and stand their ground. Some of the adults are still n breeding plumage and look fantastic. If you need any tuition on how to get the best from your camera t bet these images, I have dates available for my garden bird workshops. Gift Vouchers available

Willow Warbler Isle of Mull

These little bird are one of my favorites, They are just about every where in every tree and bush around the countryside. I noticed this little bird in the trees at the side if Loch Spelve. The trees like most of the other trees on Mull have had a bad time. The unseasonal  gales st the end of May whipped up a lot of sea spray which covered the trees and killed of the leaves. It looks like autumn in the middle of June. The pictures of the willow warbler here shows these dead leaves and gives the birds a great setting within the pictures. I hope you like...

Puffins on Lunga Treshnish Isle

When on Mull I wanted to take a trip out to Lunga, which is one of the Treshnish Isles. The Treshnish is are famous for a number of things, one of which is Fingles cave, but more importantly for me they are famous their populations of puffins ad the accessibility to them. On the boat out I met a couple Dianne and Chris  from Windermere in the English Lake district where they run a small hotel. We chatted a lot of the way over to the islands and bumped into each other frequently traveling around the Mull during the following days. They showed interest in my photography, so I dedicate these...

Wheatear on the Isle of Mull

One of the birds I take great pleasure in seeing on the island is the wheatear. This is a very striking bird which lives in rocky areas either in the uplands or on the rocky coastal areas. They are very distinctive as they fly away from you with their white rump feathers. I found a number of pairs some feeding young at the nest and others watching over the fledglings that have already left the nest. Here are some of the wheatear images taken when opportunity presented itself from my week on Mull. I hope you like...
