Ron on the Telly

After winning the Scottish Nature Photographer on the year 2010 award, I was contacted by Scottish Television who wanted to come and see me in action foe a day. They came last week and filmed me out and about finishing up at St Abb’s Head NNR in the Borders. We had a good day and the weather was kind to us. Commoner birds on the Isle of Mull

I have a few images of the the birds that you come across virtually every day on the Isle of Mull. You see them at almost every turn they have great beauty in their own right but seem to get overlooked by the people looking for wildlife as they are searching for the illusive species, otters, white-tailed eagle and golden eagle. I thought I would include them here to redress the balance a little. I like to spend a little time getting images of them as I look for my target species They are grey heron, greylag goose, goldeneye and the jaunty hooded crow. Black Grouse Lekking

I have been visiting a site in the Borders to watch the Black Grouse lekking. Its taken a while to work out how to get closest to them to get the images I wanted. I decide to set up my hide and sleep in it overnight to be on site before the birds came to the lek. I set the hide and went home only to return that night at 11:00pm up and came back at night at 11:00pm to get comfortable. I woke up at 3.15am to the noise of curlews flying and singing away. I could hear a fox barking and could only think that the fox disturbed the curlews. I set the camera up on the tripod and waited, and waited....

Blue Tit Portfolio

Like most bird at the moment, the blue tit is looking pretty good as they try to attract a mate. These jaunty little birds full of character and the males show quite a lot of aggression toward other males. When they finally nest the lay a large clutch of eggs, between 5- 16 usually in April with a possibility of a second clutch in May. Here are the pictures ……………..
