Otter with a crab
These are a few more pictures of otters from the Isle of Mull trip a couple of weeks ago. I was watching it diving for food, generally it would find something small and stay out away from the shore and eat its catch. On this occasion the young otter caught a crab, this was a little larger than what it had been eating and it brought it on to the shore to eat it. I was so close that I could hear it crunching the crab shell. I hope you like the...

We had another brilliant sunny morning here in the eastern Borders. I as out looking for hares again, but the local farmer was ploughing his fields near the site where I have been seeing the hares and there was to much disturbance for the them and they obviously went else-where. I had passed a wet flush a couple of miles back so I thought I would check it out for feeding birds like waders such as snipe or if I was lucky a woodcock. I spotted some brown hares yesterday in a field near to Stichill in the Borders. I was on my way to a meeting and couldn’t stop. I saw them running around and standing on their rear legs and getting ready to box. It was a really frosty night and the forecast was for a very sunny day, so I went back today to see if I could get them boxing. I was up very early and got to site in the dark before the hares showed up. Just after the sun rose three hares appeared in the field. It was stinging cold again with the temperature at dawn being -6°. I watched them for some time and after about...
